About this coffee

The Papua New Guinea Bunum Wo coffee, sourced through Benchmark Coffee Traders who have direct family ties to producers in the Wahgi Valley of the Western Highlands Province, reflects a strong commitment to supporting local farmers and pickers with free housing, healthcare, and schooling. The estate ensures exceptional quality through careful processes of picking, sorting, fermentation, drying, and meticulous hand-sorting before the beans are expertly graded, roasted, and evaluated by their quality control team. This latest offering represents an exciting shift from the previously sourced peaberry lots to an outstanding flat bean lot, addressing past challenges in maintaining quality and volume while preserving the beloved flavor, body, and acidity profiles that customers have come to expect. Longtime enthusiasts of Bunum Wo coffee can look forward to the same consistent excellence in this new and thoughtfully produced lot.

Flavor

The newest lot of Papua New Guinea Bunum Wo is an expressive and full bodied coffee with a balanced acidity and layers of sweetness. At varying roast levels this coffee shows a diverse spectrum of flavors, making it an exceptionally versatile offering. In lighter roast styles, this coffee is very sweet with a wonderfully round body, expressing notes of guava, nougat and crème brûlée. Darker iterations exhibit a viscous and smooth texture along with rich notes of cloves, praline and dark chocolate. The Papua New Guinea Bunum Wo works fantastically across all roast levels and brew methods, but we enjoyed this coffee most as a nuanced pour over and as a silky shot of espresso that pairs very well with milk.
